Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Splashes of Speech LLC?

Unlike many speech-language service providers, Splashes of Speech provides individualized therapy in conjunction with family and caregiver input and participation. Private speech therapy clinics allow for deeper relationships with children and their families. Unfortunately school speech therapy does not always allow for consistent communication and close relationships between the therapists and families. Splashes of Speech LLC has the unique opportunity to bridge this gap.

Another reason to choose Splashes of Speech LLC is we specialize in speech sound disorder assessment and intervention, research based fluency evaluation and treatment, and early intervention practices for the youngest of patients.

The last reason to choose Splashes of Speech LLC is that we do not have the restrictions in terms of qualifications for speech support like school and insurance-based settings do. We provide services to your child that they may not “qualify for” in other settings.

We have years of experience working in school settings, and although very important for many students, academic impact is often the primary focus. This focus leaves out children that have communication difficulties that do not affect their academic performance. Private therapy at Splashes of Speech LLC focuses on functional speech and language skills for everyday life, not specifically academics.

Insurance often puts restrictions on the amount of sessions or the types of disorders that are covered in clinic settings. In private pay speech therapy clinics, insurance coverage does not put restraints on these things. As long as the need fits under our “scope of practice”, we can target it.

Why doesn’t Splashes of Speech LLC bill insurance?

At Splashes of Speech, we pride ourselves on utilizing as much time as possible providing research-based interventions working toward improved communication for each patient. In order to accept insurance, it would require us to hire a full-time employee for billing and insurance, or to spend less time with patients and more time dealing with insurance companies. We have chosen, instead, to utilize our time seeing patients and acquiring resources and education on the latest speech and language research catering to each individual’s unique needs without worrying if insurance will “cover it”.

We do accept cash, credit card, or Health Savings Account (HSA) payments.

How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?

If you think your child might need speech therapy, talking with the child’s pediatrician, teacher, or daycare provider is a good place to start. These professionals should be able to give input on your child’s communication skills as compared to other children their age. If you then suspect a delay or difficulities communicating that are not indicative of children their age, contact Splashes of Speech LLC for a screening or full evaluation.

Does my child need a doctor’s referral to receive therapy at Splashes of Speech, LLC?

Your child does not need a doctor’s referral for speech therapy services at Splashes of Speech LLC; however, a pediatrician can give you guidance in terms of comparing communication skills to same-aged peers. Doctors referrals and/or school therapy documentation is welcomed in order to look at the child as a whole individual, but are not required to qualify for services at Splashes of Speech LLC.

We do not bill insurance, so a doctor’s referral is not required.

What should I expect for my child’s initial evaluation?

An evaluation at Splashes of Speech LLC can last from approximately 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending upon the areas being assessed. The speech language pathologist will evaluate areas of concern through use of observation, background information, standardized tests, criterion-based assessments, and parent/caregiver report as appropriate. Referrals to other professionals may be warranted if needs are outside of the Splashes of Speech LLC scope of practice.

Following the evaluation you will receive a brief verbal summary of the findings. If therapy is warranted, a written evaluation report will be reviewed with you at the first therapy appointment. If it is found that your child has attained age-appropriate speech and language skills, there will be no further appointments and you will receive a written evaluation report in the mail.

What to expect from a screening appointment?

Screenings are scheduled for no longer than 30 minutes and include observation, SLP questions, and parent/caregiver report only. Screenings serve the purpose of determining if further evaluation in speech and language is needed. No written report will be given following screenings. Only verbal report and recommendations are given at the end of each screening appointment.
